Trivia

  • The film's title 'Asal' means 'original' or 'real' in Tamil, reflecting the theme of true family bonds versus greed.
  • Actor Ajith Kumar performed many of his own stunts, including a high-speed bike chase sequence filmed on busy Chennai roads.
  • The movie was partially shot in exotic foreign locations like Malaysia and Bangkok to give it a grand, international look.
  • Composer Bharadwaj's soundtrack included a rare promotional song 'Oru Kal Oru Kannadi' that became popular despite the film's mixed reviews.
  • This was one of the few films where actress Bhavana played a character with a more traditional, family-oriented role compared to her other projects.
  • The climax action scene involving a helicopter was one of the most expensive sequences filmed for a Tamil movie at that time.
  • Director Saran initially planned a different storyline but reworked the script to better suit Ajith Kumar's star image after he came on board.
