Trivia
- This film was a rare Hindi directorial venture by K. Balachander, who was a legendary figure in South Indian cinema.
- The story is a remake of Balachander's own acclaimed 1975 Tamil film 'Apoorva Raagangal', which also starred Kamal Haasan.
- Kamal Haasan and Padmini Kohlapure played the same roles they did in the Tamil original, but the other lead actors were replaced for the Hindi version.
- The film's complex plot involving two unconventional May-December romances was considered bold for mainstream Hindi cinema at the time.
- The music was composed by Bappi Lahiri, marking a distinct shift in sound from the original Tamil film's score by M.S. Viswanathan.
- Despite the star cast, the film did not achieve major commercial success, unlike some of Balachander's other Hindi adaptations.
