Trivia
- The film's title 'Edattam' is a Tamil word meaning 'madness' or 'frenzy', directly linking to the protagonist's psychological condition.
- Director Esan reportedly studied real-life case histories of dipsomania, a compulsion to drink alcohol, to shape the character's actions.
- The film's cinematographer, known for stark visuals, used specific lighting to visually separate Saravanan's sober and intoxicated states.
- This is one of the few mainstream Tamil films to center its entire plot on the rare psychological diagnosis of dipsomania.
- The police station interrogation scenes were shot in a single, repurposed warehouse to maintain a consistent claustrophobic feel.
- Actor Suresh, who plays Saravanan, reportedly avoided sugar and caffeine during filming to naturally mimic withdrawal symptoms.
- The script was initially developed as a short film before being expanded into a feature-length psychological drama.
