• Kovai Sarala was already a comedy star when K. S. Ravikumar cast her in 'Pondatti Rajyam' (1992). But here's the twist: he didn't write the role for her. He saw her in a stage play, rewrote the character overnight, and convinced her to sign on the spot.
• In 'Sigaram Thodu' (2014), Ravikumar deliberately gave Sarala zero comic lines. He told her to play the mother role completely straight. Her deadpan reactions to his over-the-top villainy became the film's secret weapon — audiences laughed harder because she never cracked a smile.
• On the sets of 'Maaligai' (2021), Ravikumar would personally bring Sarala filter coffee every morning. She later said in an interview that he remembered her coffee order from 'Pondatti Rajyam' — 29 years earlier.
• The success of 'Aranmanai 4' (2024) directly led to Ravikumar greenlighting a spin-off comedy track featuring Sarala's character. No other actor in the franchise got that treatment.
