Partnership facts

• Sulakshana was already a known face in Malayalam cinema when she signed Pozhudhu Vidinjachu (1984). Goundamani, then a rising comedian, was cast opposite her. The director paired them because he wanted a contrast — her soft, serious screen presence against his loud, physical comedy.
• In Marudhani (1985), Goundamani’s rapid-fire one-liners forced Sulakshana to hold her reactions longer than usual. She later said in an interview that she had to learn to pause and let his punchlines land — something she never did with other co-stars.
• During the shoot of Pattukku Naan Adimai (1990), Goundamani would crack jokes between takes to keep Sulakshana laughing. She once told a crew member that his off-screen humor was the only reason she didn't walk off set during the long night shoots.
• Sulakshana said in a 1991 interview: 'Goundamani made me work harder. If I didn't match his energy, the scene would fall flat. He never let me be lazy.'
• Their pairing in Pozhudhu Vidinjachu (1984) was one of the earliest examples of a comedian and a leading lady sharing equal screen time in a Tamil film. It inspired later director K. Bhagyaraj to cast similar odd-couple duos in his own comedies.
• In Marudhani (1985), Goundamani improvised a scene where he pretended to trip over a stool. Sulakshana, not expecting it, burst out laughing — and the director kept that take in the final cut. It's the only scene in their three films where she breaks character on screen.
