• Samuthirakani was the one who pushed Halitha Shameem to direct her first feature. She was his assistant director on Nadodigal (2009). He saw her short film, told her to stop assisting and make her own movie. That movie became Poovarasam Peepee (2014).
• In Sillu Karupatti (2019), Halitha deliberately cast Samuthirakani against his usual angry-young-man image. She made him play a soft, stammering husband in the segment 'Kavithai Neram'. He later said she was the first director to see that side of him and pull it out on screen.
• They have a standing rule: no script discussions over the phone. Every time they plan a film, Halitha drives to Samuthirakani's house in Chennai and they talk it out face-to-face over coffee. He says she's the only director he does this with.
