• Indra Kumar cast Aamir Khan in 'Dil' (1990) after seeing his raw energy in 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak'. But Aamir almost walked out during the first schedule — he hated the film's title song picturisation. Kumar convinced him to stay by re-shooting the entire sequence.
• On 'Ishq' (1997), Aamir pushed Indra Kumar to let him improvise the comedy scenes with Juhi Chawla. Kumar usually stuck to his script, but he let Aamir rewrite half the banter on set. That loose energy is why the 'Mere Dil Mein Hai Tu' sequence feels so natural.
• The success of 'Dil' (1990) directly launched the trend of college romances with a family conflict in 90s Bollywood. Without this film, you probably don't get 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge' or 'Maine Pyar Kiya' — both came out the same year and copied the 'rich girl-poor boy' template.
• Aamir and Indra Kumar never became close friends off-screen. After 'Mann' (1999) flopped, they didn't speak for over a decade. Aamir later admitted in a 2012 interview that he felt Kumar's direction style was too 'formulaic' for him post-2000.
• Indra Kumar once said: 'Aamir is the only actor who would call me at 2 AM to discuss a single line of dialogue. For 'Mann', he made me rewrite the climax seven times. I hated it then, but the film is better because of it.'
