• They first shared screen space in 'Muqabla' (1979) because the producer wanted a sure-shot clash of titans — Khanna was the reigning superstar, Sinha was the rising 'angry young man' villain. The film was built entirely around pitting their fanbases against each other.
• In 'Dil-E-Nadaan' (1982), Khanna played the romantic poet and Sinha played the cynical realist. The director said Sinha deliberately slowed his dialogue delivery to let Khanna's emotional pauses land harder — a rare case of a co-star adjusting his own style to make the other look better.
• Despite playing rivals on screen, Khanna and Sinha were close off it. Sinha once revealed that Khanna personally called him after every flop they did together to say, 'Don't worry, next one will work' — a gesture Sinha called 'the only ego-free superstar I ever met.'
• Their third and final film together, 'Paapi Pet Ka Sawaal Hai' (1984), was a social satire about hunger and corruption. It flopped hard, but its poster — showing both stars chained together — became a template for later 'odd couple' buddy films in the 90s.
