• Santhanam and Narayan first teamed up because director Rajesh saw Santhanam's comic timing in 'Siva Manasula Sakthi' and specifically wrote Narayan's role in 'Oru Kal Oru Kannadi' (2012) to bounce off him. Santhanam later said he agreed only after Rajesh promised Narayan wouldn't be a 'sidekick' but a proper co-lead.
• In 'Endrendrum Punnagai' (2013), Narayan played the straight man to Santhanam's hyperactive chatterbox. Narayan deliberately slowed his delivery by half a beat in every scene, letting Santhanam's rapid-fire lines land harder. Santhanam later admitted that Narayan's 'silent pauses' made his own jokes funnier.
• Their 2017 film 'Sakka Podu Podu Raja' was the first Tamil film where Santhanam played the solo lead without a superstar hero. Narayan, who had been a supporting actor in their earlier films, agreed to play second fiddle again — but only if Santhanam's character got the girl. That choice directly led to Santhanam launching his own production company later that year.
• During the shoot of 'Oru Kal Oru Kannadi' (2012), Santhanam and Narayan shared a room in a budget lodge in Kodaikanal for 40 days. Narayan cooked sambar rice every night because Santhanam refused to eat hotel food. They still call each other 'Sambar Anna' and 'Rice Thambi' privately.
• Narayan said in a 2018 podcast: 'Santhanam and I never rehearsed. We'd read the script once, then he'd start improvising and I'd just react. That's why our scenes feel like real conversations — because half of them were made up on the spot.'
