• Bhagyaraj handpicked Rajendran for Mupparimanam (2017) after seeing him in a small comic role in another film. He told Rajendran he wanted to build a whole film around his specific brand of deadpan humour.
• On the sets of Aaruthra (2018), Bhagyaraj would deliberately flub his lines in the first take to make Rajendran laugh. Rajendran's genuine, uncontrollable laughter became the take they used in the final cut.
• The success of Aaruthra (2018) directly led to a wave of small-budget horror-comedies in Tamil cinema. Producers started specifically pairing older veteran actors with younger comedians, copying the Bhagyaraj-Rajendran template.
