The M. S. Bhaskar & Singamuthu partnership

After 8 years apart, they came back together for Bhoghee (2025). They didn't share a set between 2017 and 2025. From Kaaval (2015) to Bhoghee (2025).

Their most recent film, Bhoghee, came out in 2025 — the partnership is still active. It started with Kaaval (2015).

The shape of the work

The 2010s belonged to Kaaval; the 2020s to Bhoghee. M. S. Bhaskar acted in every film; Singamuthu acted in all of them. Strictly Tamil cinema — they never crossed industries together.

Partnership facts

  • For Kaaval (2015), director S. P. Jhananathan cast M. S. Bhaskar first, then asked him to suggest a co-star for the villain role. Bhaskar immediately recommended Singamuthu, who was mostly a comedy actor till then. That film gave Singamuthu his first major negative role.
  • On the set of Vaigai Express (2017), M. S. Bhaskar would deliberately flub his lines in the first take to make Singamuthu laugh. Singamuthu then improvised angry reactions that the director kept in the final cut. The scene where Bhaskar's character gets slapped by Singamuthu was entirely unscripted.
  • During the shoot of Kaaval, Singamuthu's father passed away. M. S. Bhaskar quietly paid for the funeral and travel costs without telling anyone. Singamuthu only found out two years later from a production assistant.
  • Singamuthu said in a 2018 interview: 'Bhaskar anna doesn't act with me. He fights with me on screen. That's why I look real. He makes me angry for real.'
  • Their fight scene in Kaaval (2015) — a single-take, no-dialogue sequence in a rain-soaked market — was directly referenced by director Lokesh Kanagaraj when he choreographed the Vikram-Karthi fight in Kaithi (2019). Lokesh told a BTS crew that he wanted 'that Kaaval energy'.
  • In Bhoghee (2025), M. S. Bhaskar insisted that Singamuthu play the antagonist without any makeup or prosthetics. Bhaskar told the director: 'His face is enough. Let him just stare.' The final confrontation scene has a 40-second close-up of Singamuthu's eyes — no dialogue, no music.
