• Danny Denzongpa was the one who pushed for Kumar Gaurav to be cast in 'Love Story' (1981). The director Rajendra Kumar originally wanted a more established hero, but Danny insisted the newcomer had the right raw energy. That film made both of them stars overnight.
• In 'Lovers' (1983), Danny played the brooding, intense older brother while Kumar played the impulsive younger one. Danny deliberately slowed down his delivery in every scene with Kumar to make the younger actor's nervous energy pop on screen. Kumar later said Danny 'taught me how to act by acting less.'
• Danny and Kumar remained close friends long after their films ended. In the 1990s, when Kumar's career was fading, Danny quietly recommended him for a role in a Bengali film he was producing. Kumar didn't get the part, but he never forgot the gesture.
• The success of 'Love Story' (1981) directly led to a wave of college-romance films in the early 80s. Without this pairing, you probably wouldn't have had 'Ek Duuje Ke Liye' or 'Betaab' in the same form. Danny and Kumar set the template: one intense, one innocent.
• Kumar Gaurav once said in an interview: 'Danny bhai was the only actor who could make me look good even when I was terrible. He'd just stare at me with those eyes, and I'd suddenly know what to do.'
• Their third and final film together, 'Muthi Bhar Zameen' (1996), almost didn't happen. Danny had to convince Kumar to come out of a semi-retirement. The film flopped, but they shot it in Danny's hometown in Sikkim, and Kumar later called it 'the most peaceful shoot of my life.'
