• In Judwaa (1997), Dalip Tahil played the villain who keeps confusing Salman Khan's twin characters. David Dhawan made Tahil deliver his lines in a deliberately over-the-top, theatrical style — a sharp contrast to Tahil's usual serious roles. That performance set the template for Dhawan's later comic villains.
• Dalip Tahil was one of the few actors David Dhawan trusted to improvise on set. During Chal Mere Bhai (2000), Tahil ad-libbed a whole monologue about 'family values' that Dhawan kept in the final cut — even though it made the scene run 40 seconds longer than planned.
• David Dhawan cast Dalip Tahil in Judwaa (1997) because he needed a villain who could match Salman Khan's physical comedy. Tahil had never done slapstick before. Dhawan made him watch three Charlie Chaplin films as homework before shooting began.
• The success of Partner (2007) — where Tahil played a cameo as a hotel manager — directly led to David Dhawan casting him again in Do Knot Disturb (2009). That film's entire second half was rewritten after Dhawan saw Tahil's comic timing in the Partner rushes.
• Dalip Tahil once said in a 2008 interview: 'David is the only director who told me to forget my training and just be a cartoon. I argued for two days. Then I saw the rushes and shut up.'
