• Vijay Sethupathi and Aruldoss first met on the set of Naan Mahaan Alla (2010). Sethupathi was still a struggling actor with just one release behind him. Aruldoss was already a known face. The director, Suseenthiran, paired them because he wanted two actors who looked like they could actually be friends from the same street — not polished heroes.
• In Soodhu Kavvum (2013), Aruldoss played the straight-laced cop while Sethupathi played the chaotic kidnapper. The comedy worked because Aruldoss refused to react to Sethupathi's improvisations. He told an interviewer: 'If I laugh, the scene dies. I had to stay stone-faced so his madness would pop.' That deadpan became the film's secret weapon.
• Their 2014 film Thirudan Police was the first time both actors played cops together. It bombed at the box office (5.5/10), but it directly inspired director Karthik Subbaraj to cast them as rival gangsters in Jigarthanda (2014) — a film that became a cult classic. Subbaraj said he watched their cop double-act and thought: 'What if they were on opposite sides?'
• During the shoot of Thenmerku Paruvakaatru (2010), Sethupathi was so broke he couldn't afford bus fare to the set. Aruldoss quietly paid for his travel for two weeks without telling anyone. Sethupathi only found out years later when a production assistant mentioned it. He still calls Aruldoss 'my first producer.'
• Aruldoss once said about Sethupathi: 'He doesn't act with you. He acts at you. You have to catch his energy and throw it back. If you blink, you lose the scene.' He said this in a 2016 interview for Dharma Durai's release.
• In Idam Porul Eval (2014), they played brothers for the only time. Sethupathi was the impulsive younger one; Aruldoss was the burdened elder. The director, Seenu Ramasamy, made them live together in a village house for 10 days before shooting. Sethupathi later admitted: 'By day three, we weren't acting. I was genuinely annoying him.'
