• Rajendran was the one who pushed director R. Kannan to cast Vijay Sethupathi in Thirudan Police (2014). Sethupathi was still riding the Super Deluxe wave but hadn't done a full-on cop comedy. Rajendran told Kannan: 'He'll nail the comic timing. Trust me.'
• In Naanum Rowdydhaan (2015), Sethupathi and Rajendran built their scenes like a tennis match. Sethupathi would set up a deadpan line, then Rajendran would volley back with a loud, physical reaction. The director Vignesh Shivan said they never needed more than two takes — they fed off each other's rhythm naturally.
• Their pairing in Sanga Thamizhan (2019) directly launched the trend of 'buddy cop comedies' in Tamil cinema. Before this, cop duos were mostly serious. After this film's hit status, at least four other Tamil films in 2020-21 tried to replicate their odd-couple energy — none matched it.
• On the sets of Thirudan Police, Rajendran would cook biryani for the entire crew every Friday. Sethupathi would sit with him and eat from the same plate. They called it 'our Friday ritual' — and kept it going through all three films.
• Rajendran once said in an interview: 'Vijay Sethupathi is the only actor who can make me forget my lines because I'm laughing so hard. And then he'll improvise something even funnier to cover for me.'
