• They first met on the set of Thirudan Police (2014) because director R. Kannan specifically wanted a fresh pair — no baggage, no star tantrums. John Vijay was already a known character actor, but Aishwarya Rajesh was still new. Kannan bet on their raw energy over star power.
• In Kadalai (2016), John Vijay played a loud, over-the-top villain while Aishwarya Rajesh played the grounded, suffering wife. The trick? John deliberately dialled his performance up to 11 so that Aishwarya’s quiet restraint would hit harder. He set the pace; she gave it weight.
• Saamy II (2018) was a hit, but it also marked the end of their on-screen pairing. After that, Aishwarya Rajesh moved almost entirely to Telugu and Malayalam films, while John Vijay doubled down on Tamil character roles. • During the shoot of Thirudan Police, John Vijay would stay back after his scenes to help Aishwarya rehearse her lines — even though he wasn’t in those scenes. She later said in an interview that he treated her like a younger sister on set, not a co-star.
