• Rajendran and Appukutty first shared screen space in Sowkarpettai (2016) because director Selvah had seen them both in smaller comic roles and wanted a double-act that could bounce off each other's energy — he wrote their scenes together specifically after casting them.
• In Mupparimanam (2017), Rajendran played the straight man to Appukutty's hyperactive sidekick. Appukutty would improvise lines on set, and Rajendran would react in real time — the director kept the camera rolling because their unscripted back-and-forth was funnier than the written dialogue.
• Their only hit together, Vivegam (2017), was also the only film where they played antagonists — and it directly led to Appukutty being cast in a similar villain-comic role in later films like Kalakalappu 2 (2018). Rajendran's casting as a henchman in Vivegam was reportedly because the director wanted a familiar face to bounce off Appukutty's character.
• During the shoot of Sowkarpettai, Rajendran and Appukutty shared a room in a budget lodge near the set. Appukutty later said in an interview that Rajendran would wake him up at 5 AM to practice their comedy scenes together before call time — a ritual they kept for all three films.
• Appukutty once told a local YouTube channel: 'Rajendran sir is the only co-actor who made me forget the camera. When we did the bus scene in Mupparimanam, I actually laughed so hard we had to reshoot.'
