Pannaiyarum Padminiyum Full Story Explained (2014)

The film begins with a young man buying a new car. He says his inspiration is a village landlord and his love for a vintage car. That landlord is Pannaiyar. He lives with his wife Chellamma in a small village. They are kind and generous. They bring TV, radio, and telephones to the village. Everyone can use them freely. Their daughter Suja is greedy. She takes whatever she wants whenever she visits.

One day, Pannaiyar's friend Shanmugam visits with a brand new Fiat Premier Padmini. Pannaiyar is amazed by the car. Shanmugam says he is going to visit his pregnant daughter. He asks Pannaiyar to keep the car for a few months. He can use it as he wishes. Pannaiyar is thrilled. He treats the car like a prized possession. He cannot drive, so he hires a young man named Murugesan as the driver. He also appoints Peedai, the household servant, as the cleaner. Pannaiyar and Chellamma treat them like sons.

Murugesan falls in love with a girl named Malarvizhi. He meets her at a funeral. She likes him too. Meanwhile, a little boy in the village is obsessed with the car. He wants a ride in the front seat. Peedai jokingly asks for five rupees. The boy starts saving his pocket money.

Chellamma asks Pannaiyar to learn driving before their wedding anniversary. She wants them to drive to the temple together. Pannaiyar agrees. He asks Murugesan to teach him. But Murugesan fears losing his job. He delays the lessons. Pannaiyar's progress is slow.

Shanmugam dies suddenly. His daughter comes to take the car. But she leaves it as a gift. Now Pannaiyar and Chellamma own the car. They are happy. Murugesan sees their joy. He changes his mind and starts teaching Pannaiyar properly. But during a lesson, Pannaiyar crashes the car. The damage is minor, but the car starts having problems. It will not start properly.

Suja visits and sees the car. She demands it. Pannaiyar cannot refuse. He gives it to her. Murugesan and Chellamma are disappointed. On their anniversary, they prepare to go to the temple in a bullock cart. Then Suja returns. She is furious. The car stopped working. She insults her father and leaves it behind. Chellamma scolds her. Suja storms away.

The car is back but it will not start. Everyone is frustrated. Peedai jumps on the bonnet. The car starts. Pannaiyar finally drives. He takes Chellamma to the temple. They even race a bully bus driver. They win.

The little boy who saved money for a front seat ride never got it. He left for higher studies. Years later, he is the young man who bought a new car at the start. He returns to the village. He searches for the old Padmini. Murugesan sees him and offers a ride. The boy finally sits in the front seat. His wish is fulfilled at last.
