The Last Lear is a 2007 Indian English-language drama film directed by Rituparno Ghosh. It stars Amitabh Bachchan, Preity Zinta, Arjun Rampal, Shefali Shah, Divya Dutta, and Jisshu Sengupta. The story follows Harish Mishra, a retired Shakespearean theatre actor who is convinced to act in a film by an ambitious director. The film explores the conflict between traditional theatre and modern cinema. It won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in English and the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for Shefali Shah. The Last Lear premiered at the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival and was released in India in 2008.

Storyline

A retired Shakespearean actor, Harish Mishra, lives alone in Kolkata. A young film director, Siddharth, wants him to star in a movie. Harish hates cinema but finally agrees. During the shoot in the Himalayas, a tragic accident puts Harish in a coma. His past and present collide as those who love him remember his life.
