
Devaki(2006)
'Devaki' is a 2006 Hindi drama film directed by Bappaditya Bandopadhyay. The cast includes Suman Ranganathan, Perizaad Zorabian, Ram Kapoor, Arvin Tucker, and George Baker. The story follows two women from different backgrounds who are both betrayed by fathers and lovers. One is a village girl sold in an open auction. The other is an urban NGO worker exploited by her lover and father. The film is based on a real-life incident from 2003 in Madhya Pradesh. It premiered at the Osian Cinefan Asian Film Festival in July 2005. The movie traveled to 11 international film festivals and won the Best Feature Film award at the Asheville Film Festival in North Carolina. Critics called it a 'must watch for every woman'. The film was released in India on 6 January 2006.

Storyline
A village girl named Devaki is forced to marry a 70-year-old man and is then auctioned by the Panchayat. Meanwhile, an urban NGO worker named Nandini discovers that city life is just as cruel when her lover and father betray her. Both women must fight against a system that treats them as property.
