Chokher Bali (2003) is a Bengali-language period romantic drama directed by Rituparno Ghosh. The film stars Aishwarya Rai, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Raima Sen, Tota Roy Chowdhury, and Lily Chakravarty. It is based on Rabindranath Tagore's 1903 novel of the same name. The story is set in early 20th century Kolkata and follows a young widow named Binodini who moves in with a family and begins an affair with the married son. The film explores forbidden love, betrayal, and the limited choices available to widows in traditional Bengali society. Chokher Bali received critical acclaim and won three National Film Awards, including Best Feature Film in Bengali. It was also nominated for the Golden Leopard at the Locarno International Film Festival and screened at over 25 international festivals. The Hindi-dubbed version was released internationally.

Storyline

A young widow named Binodini moves in with her aunt's family in Kolkata. She becomes best friends with Asha, the wife of Mahendra. But Binodini's loneliness and desire for love lead her into a secret affair with Mahendra. Asha discovers the betrayal, and everyone's lives fall apart.
