The story follows a junior doctor who discovers a vaccine for leprosy but faces harassment, jealousy, and bureaucratic negligence instead of recognition. The film is based on the 1982 story 'Abhimanyu' by Ramapada Chowdhury and is loosely inspired by the life of Dr. Subhash Mukhopadhyay. It won three National Film Awards including Best Direction and a Special Jury Award for Pankaj Kapur. The film was released in 1990 and is available through the National Film Development Corporation of India.

Storyline
