Trivia
- The film's title 'Kayal' means 'fish' in Tamil, but here it's used as the female lead's name, symbolizing her free-spirited nature.
- Director Prabhu Solomon is known for rural backdrops, but 'Kayal' partly shifts to an urban setting for the friends' travel sequences.
- The song 'Kannazhaga' became a huge hit and is often remembered more than the film itself in popular culture.
- Actor Chandran, who played the friend Kathir, is primarily a comedian but took on a more serious supporting role here.
- The film's climax in Kanyakumari was shot at the real Vivekananda Rock Memorial, a significant pilgrimage site.
- This was one of the early major films for actor Anandhi, who played Kayal, after her debut in 'Vaagai Sooda Vaa'.
- The movie underperformed at the box office despite positive reviews for its music and Anandhi's performance.
