Vengayam is a 2011 Indian Tamil-language social drama film written and directed by Sankagiri Rajkumar. The film stars Alexander as sub-inspector Anbumani and Pavina Joel as his love interest, with Sathyaraj appearing in a guest role as himself. The story is set in a rural Tamil village where fake godmen exploit the faith of villagers. When several of these godmen go missing, Anbumani investigates and uncovers a network of deceit and corruption. The film critiques blind faith and the exploitation of religious sentiment. It received positive reviews from critics for its honest storytelling and relevant social message, but it failed commercially at the box office. The music was composed by Bharani, with lyrics by Arivumathi and Suba Veerapandian. Vengayam was released on 19 August 2011 and later re-released on 23 March 2012.
