Dhaagam(1974)
Dhaagam (1974) is an Indian Tamil-language romantic drama film directed by Babu Nanthankode in his directorial debut. The film stars R. Muthuraman and Nanditha Bose in lead roles. The story follows Sharada, an orphan living in an ashram, who falls in love with a blind man named Sekhar. They marry and move to Madras to build a better life, but poverty forces them to return to the ashram. The film is notable for its minimalist approach — no makeup, no elaborate sets, and no stylish costumes. It was completed in 1972 but never had a theatrical release, though it was screened at multiple film festivals. Dhaagam is considered a pioneering art film in Tamil cinema and inspired later works like Aval Appadithan (1978).
