'Petha Manam Pithu' is a 1973 Indian Tamil-language drama film directed by S. P. Muthuraman. The film stars Savitri and R. Muthuraman in lead roles. It follows a mother whose obsessive love for her son leads to mental illness and family breakdown. The story is set in a small town and explores the destructive side of maternal affection. The film is a remake of the Marathi film 'Manini' (1961). It was written by C. Guhanathan and featured music by V. Kumar. 'Petha Manam Pithu' was a commercial success and ran for over 100 days in theatres. It was released on 14 January 1973.

Storyline

A mother loves her son so deeply that she cannot let him out of her sight. Her fear for his safety turns into paranoia and obsession. Her husband tries to help, but her condition worsens. When her son falls seriously ill, she loses her grip on reality completely. The film asks how much love is too much.
