Maanik(2019)
Maanik is a 2019 Indian Tamil-language fantasy comedy film directed by Martyn. The film stars Ma Ka Pa Anand and Suza Kumar in lead roles, with supporting performances from Manobala, Yogi Babu, and Jangiri Madhumitha. The story follows Pasupathy, a man killed by his lover's father in the 1980s, who is reborn 27 years later as Maanik. He grows up in a Chennai orphanage and becomes determined to bring back the banned Chennai Super Kings cricket team. The film blends reincarnation, romance, and absurd humor with a curse that kills the fathers of women who confess love to Maanik. Produced at AVM Studios in Chennai, the film began production in mid-2016 and released in January 2019. The soundtrack was composed by Dharan Kumar with lyrics by Mirchi Vijay, released under the Saregama label. Critical reception was mixed, with praise for the fantasy elements but criticism for inconsistent writing and character development.
