Trivia

  • The film's title 'Karamdaata' translates to 'the giver of fate' in Hindi, reflecting its themes of destiny and generational cycles.
  • This was one of the few films where actor Rajesh Khanna played a character with the name Govinda, which later became his co-star Govinda's screen name.
  • Actress Padmini Kolhapure, who played Pinky, was a major star at the time but this film is rarely mentioned among her prominent works of the 1980s.
  • The movie was released the same year as the massive hit 'Karma', which also featured dramatic storylines but overshadowed many smaller films.
  • Director Shashilal K. Nair was better known as a cinematographer and this film was one of his early directorial efforts in Hindi cinema.
  • The plot's theme of a granddaughter repeating her mother's romantic mistake mirrored a common melodramatic trope in 1980s Indian cinema.
  • Despite starring Rajesh Khanna, the film did not perform well commercially and is not widely remembered in his filmography today.
