Sarkar is a 2018 Indian Tamil-language political action film directed by A. R. Murugadoss. The film stars Vijay as Sundar Ramaswamy, a corporate raider who discovers his vote has been fraudulently cast upon arriving in Chennai to vote in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election. Keerthy Suresh plays Nila, his love interest, and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar portrays Komalavalli, the ruthless daughter of the corrupt Chief Minister. The story follows Sundar's fight against electoral fraud and his transformation from a businessman into a political activist. The film was produced by Sun Pictures and features music by A. R. Rahman. Sarkar grossed over ₹243 crore worldwide and sparked real-world awareness about Section 49P of election rules. The film was released on 6 November 2018 during the Diwali festival.
