Marudhanayagam is an unfinished Indian Tamil-language historical drama film directed and produced by Kamal Haasan. The film stars Kamal Haasan as Maruthanayagam Pillai, with Vishnuvardhan, Nassar, Amrish Puri, Naseeruddin Shah, and Pasupathy in supporting roles. The story follows the life of Muhammed Yusuf Khan, an 18th-century warrior who served the British East India Company and rose to become the ruler of Madurai. The film was launched in 1997 with Queen Elizabeth II as the chief guest. It was planned as the most expensive Indian film of its time, with a budget of ₹80 crores. Only 30 minutes of footage were shot before the project was shelved in 1999. The music was composed by Ilaiyaraaja. The film remains unfinished despite multiple revival attempts.
