Shorgul (also known as Muzaffarnagar 2013) is a 2016 Indian Hindi-language political thriller film directed by Pranav Kumar Singh. It stars Jimmy Sheirgill, Ashutosh Rana, Suha Gezen, Anirudh Dave, and Hiten Tejwani. The story is set in the fictional town of Maliabad in Uttar Pradesh and is inspired by the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots. It follows a love story between a Hindu boy and a Muslim girl that sparks communal violence. Politicians exploit the incident for electoral gain, leading to widespread bloodshed. The film received a U/A certificate from the CBFC but faced censorship cuts and controversy. It was banned in Muzaffarnagar and a fatwa was issued against its lead actor. The film was released on 1 July 2016 and received mixed to negative reviews.

Storyline
A young Hindu man named Raghu falls in love with a Muslim woman named Zainab. Their forbidden romance angers her fiancé, who kills Raghu. Politicians use the murder to ignite communal riots. Raghu's father, a respected leader, tries to stop the violence but is killed. Zainab loses everything and must decide between despair and revenge.
