Kandhakottai Full Story Explained (2009)

Siva is a young man living in the town of Kandhakottai. He runs a small business with his friends. But Siva has a strange hobby — he hates love. He actively breaks up couples he sees. He thinks love is foolish and weak. He has never been in love himself. His mother and sister Girija live with him. He is protective of them but also strict.

Pooja is the complete opposite. She lives in the same town and believes love is everything. She helps couples who are separated by their families. She writes letters, arranges meetings, and even helps them elope. She sees Siva as a villain. They argue whenever they meet. Their families have a history of not getting along.

One day, Girija falls in love with Arun. Arun is Pooja's cousin. They meet secretly and promise to marry. When Siva finds out, he explodes. He locks Girija in her room and threatens Arun. Pooja steps in to protect her cousin. The conflict between Siva and Pooja becomes intense. They fight verbally and physically.

But something strange happens. Siva starts noticing Pooja in a new way. Her fire and passion attract him. He tries to fight these feelings but fails. Meanwhile, Girija runs away from home to be with Arun. Siva's mother becomes ill from stress. The two families nearly have a violent clash.

Siva hits rock bottom. He realizes his hatred for love has destroyed his family's peace. He sits alone and reflects. He remembers how happy Girija was with Arun. He remembers how Pooja fought for love. He makes a decision to change.
