Storyline
Murthy makes a living by taking the blame for others' crimes, so jail is like a second home to him. A man named Ramanathan hires Murthy to pretend to be his son, hoping a vengeful enemy will target the imposter instead of his real son. Murthy agrees because he loves Ramanathan's niece, but when the real son is killed, Murthy once again takes the blame and turns himself in.
“A scapegoat becomes a son to save a life.”

Trivia
- The film's title 'Star' was originally planned to be 'Nee Engey' (Where Are You) but was changed during production.
- This was one of the few films where actor Prashanth played a character who is a professional scapegoat, a unique role in his career.
- Director Praveen Gandhi also worked as an assistant director for the iconic film 'Mouna Ragam' before making his directorial debut with 'Star'.
- Actress Jyotika, who played the female lead, was simultaneously shooting for several other major films like 'Dum Dum Dum' during this period.
- The movie's climax, where the hero takes the blame for a murder, was considered an unconventional and somber ending for a mainstream Tamil film at the time.
- A significant portion of the film was shot in Mauritius, capitalizing on the location's scenic beauty which was a novelty in early 2000s Tamil cinema.
- Composer Deva, known for his peppy numbers, provided the music, but the film's soundtrack did not achieve the same commercial success as his other works from that era.
