The film stars Livingston and Kausalya in lead roles, with Karan, Vivek, Anand, and Prakash Raj in supporting roles. The story follows Nataraj, a village artist who moves to Chennai and pretends to be mute after a woman mistakes him for one. The film explores themes of love, deception, and sacrifice. It was released on 1 August 1998 and became a box office success. Bobby won the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Music Director for his soundtrack. The film was later remade in Telugu as Seenu (1999) and in Hindi as Pyaar Diwana Hota Hai (2002).

Storyline
