Settai Full Story Explained (2013)

Settai begins with three roommates living in a dirty apartment in Mumbai. Jayakanthan is a journalist engaged to Madhumita, an air hostess. Nagaraj is a photographer who loves taking pictures of people in embarrassing situations. Cheenu is the simple-minded one who often messes things up. They are all broke and owe money to their landlord and everyone else.

Madhumita agrees to deliver a package for Richard to a man named Guna. She does not know the package contains thirty diamonds. She also does not know Guna is a dangerous crime boss. Madhumita asks Jayakanthan to deliver the package. Jayakanthan passes it to Nagaraj. But Nagaraj has severe diarrhea after eating bad chicken from a roadside stall. He cannot go anywhere. So he gives the package to Cheenu along with his own stool sample for the doctor. Cheenu mixes up the two packages. Guna receives the stool sample instead of the diamonds. He becomes furious and starts a violent investigation.

Meanwhile, Nagaraj photographs his landlord with a prostitute. He sends the photos to blackmail the landlord. Jayakanthan gets a call from his colleague Shakthi. He goes to meet her thinking it is work. But it is just a party. Shakthi's ex-husband Rajeev sees them together and gets jealous. He punches Jayakanthan in the face. Jayakanthan fights back and knocks Rajeev out. Rajeev chases them with a gun. They barely escape.

Guna interrogates Richard and learns about Madhumita. He calls her and gets the address of the apartment. Guna breaks into the apartment and finds Cheenu. He puts a noose around Cheenu's neck and stands him on a stool. When Jayakanthan arrives, Guna forces him to explain the mix-up. Guna realizes the diamonds are with Nagaraj's doctor. Nagaraj retrieves the package from the doctor's office. Guna finds his thirty diamonds inside. He orders his men to kill all three roommates.

One henchman is about to shoot Jayakanthan. Another kicks the stool from under Cheenu to hang him. But the ceiling cannot hold Cheenu's weight. It collapses and knocks out Guna and his men. The three friends escape with the diamonds. They spend the night at Shakthi's place. The next day they sell the diamonds to a local jeweler for a lot of money.

They plan to leave town but Guna kidnaps Madhumita. He demands the diamonds back or he will kill her. The friends try to buy back the diamonds from the jeweler. The jeweler demands double the price they were paid. They do not have enough money. Jayakanthan comes up with a plan. He, Nagaraj, Cheenu, and Shakthi disguise themselves as burglars. They break into the jewelry store, gag the owner, and take back the diamonds. They leave the money on the counter. The police chase them but they escape.

They reach the hotel where Guna is holding Madhumita. As they prepare to exchange the diamonds, the police arrive. A shootout breaks out between Guna's gang and the police. Everyone hits the floor. When the shooting stops, Guna and his men are dead or arrested. Jayakanthan, Nagaraj, Cheenu, Madhumita, and Richard survive. Shakthi is upset to learn about Jayakanthan's engagement. She walks away. Jayakanthan breaks off his engagement with Madhumita.

In the end, Nagaraj reveals he kept the cash from the jeweler. They are now rich. Shakthi returns a hubcap from Jayakanthan's car. Jayakanthan jumps into her car through the open window and kisses her. The film ends with them driving away together.
