Trivia

  • The film's title 'Kuyili' is a historical reference to a female warrior from the 18th century who fought against British colonial rule.
  • Director P Murugasamy reportedly conducted extensive field research in rural Tamil Nadu to authentically depict the community's struggles.
  • The screenplay was developed from real-life case studies of women's self-help groups and anti-arrack movements in the state.

  • The film's climax involved shooting a large-scale protest sequence with over 500 local villagers as background artists.
  • It is one of the few mainstream Tamil films in recent years to explicitly center its narrative on the ideology and activities of the Communist Party.
  • The original soundtrack features folk instruments like the 'tharai' and 'thumbi' to ground the story in its rural setting.
