Storyline
During the 1980s in rural Andhra Pradesh, a spirited young man realizes that sports could be the key to uniting his struggling community and restoring their lost pride. When a powerful rival village challenges them, he brings everyone together—farmers, shopkeepers, and everyday workers—convincing them to set aside their differences and train for an epic competition. What begins as a simple match becomes a powerful story about how ordinary people can accomplish remarkable things when they stand united against all odds.
“One village. One dream. Unbreakable pride.”

→Trivia
- Peddi marks only the second directorial outing for Buchi Babu Sana, whose debut Uppena (2021) became one of the biggest hits of Telugu cinema that year, setting very high expectations for his follow-up.
- The film is set in 1980s rural Andhra Pradesh, a period when village rivalries and community pride were deeply tied to local identity — long before cable TV or urban migration reshaped rural life.
- Buchi Babu Sana is known for rooting his stories in the landscape and dialect of coastal Andhra, and Peddi continues that tradition by drawing on the culture, slang, and customs of a specific regional world rather than a generic rural backdrop.
- The title 'Peddi' is a colloquial Telugu word used in villages to describe someone who is rough, unpolished, or larger than life — hinting at the protagonist's character before the story even begins.
- Using sport as the vehicle for community pride places Peddi in a lineage of underdog films where the playing field becomes a battleground for dignity, echoing classics like Lagaan (2001) but rooted entirely in a Telugu village context.
- The 1980s setting required the production team to recreate a pre-liberalisation rural world — unpaved roads, hand-pump wells, bullock carts — at a time when most Telugu films default to contemporary or mythological settings.
- Buchi Babu Sana has spoken in interviews about wanting his films to feel like they belong to a specific place and time, and Peddi's period detail reflects his approach of treating geography as a character in its own right.
