Trivia

  • The title 'VVAN' is rooted in the Sanskrit and Hindi word 'van' (वन), meaning forest — a deliberate spelling choice that signals the film's deeper connection to ancient, primal wilderness rather than a modern landscape.
  • The premise of a rational, city-bred protagonist confronting supernatural village beliefs taps into a long tradition of Hindi cinema exploring the tension between urban modernity and rural spirituality, a theme that gained fresh urgency after films like Stree and Tumbbad found massive crossover audiences.
  • Director Deepak Kumar Mishra set the story around an ancestral forbidden forest, drawing on real folklore from Central and Eastern India where dense forest tracts are considered sacred and off-limits — home to local goddesses known as 'Van Devatas.'
  • The awakening of a divine goddess as a consequence of one man's rational defiance reflects the shakti worship tradition, where a dormant feminine power is believed to stir only when the natural or spiritual order is disturbed.
  • The film blends action and mythology in a way that positions it alongside a growing wave of Hindi productions — accelerated by the success of RRR and Kalki 2898-AD — that treat ancient Indian belief systems as legitimate, high-stakes narrative fuel rather than mere backdrop.
  • Casting an 'urban man' as the reluctant village saviour is a structural choice that keeps the audience's skepticism alive alongside the character's own, making the eventual acceptance of the supernatural feel earned rather than assumed.
  • Forbidden forest myths are among the oldest forms of environmental protection in Indian village culture — communities historically kept these zones off-limits to preserve water sources and biodiversity, giving VVAN's premise a grounding in real ecological history as much as legend.
