Trivia
- The film's title 'Maatrubhumi' translates to 'Motherland' in Hindi — a word with deep emotional resonance in Indian culture that frames the soldiers' sacrifice as an act of devotion to the nation.
- The Galwan Valley clash of June 15, 2020, claimed the lives of 20 Indian soldiers and was the deadliest confrontation between India and China in 45 years, making it one of the most significant military events of recent Indian history.
- One of the most striking aspects of the real battle was that no firearms were used — a 1996 bilateral agreement between India and China prohibits the use of guns near the Line of Actual Control, so troops fought hand-to-hand with rocks, iron rods, and barbed-wire clubs.
- Colonel Santosh Babu, Commanding Officer of the 16 Bihar Regiment, led the Indian troops during the clash and was among the martyrs — he was posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra, India's second-highest wartime gallantry honour.
- Director Apoorva Lakhia built his reputation on gritty crime dramas like Shootout at Lokhandwala (2007) and Shootout at Wadala (2013) — Maatrubhumi marks a significant shift for him into patriotic military storytelling.
- The Galwan River valley sits at an altitude of over 14,000 feet in eastern Ladakh, where oxygen is thin and temperatures can drop sharply at night — the brutal terrain added another layer of suffering to an already brutal confrontation.
- After the Galwan clash, India banned over 200 Chinese mobile applications, including TikTok, citing national security — the battle triggered a wave of public sentiment that went far beyond the battlefield and reshaped India-China relations.
