Maryan is a 2013 Tamil-language survival drama film directed by Bharat Bala. The film stars Dhanush as Maryan Joseph, a fisherman from Kanyakumari, and Parvathy Thiruvothu as Panimalar, his love interest. The story follows Maryan's journey from his coastal village to Sudan, where he is kidnapped by extremists and must survive the desert to return home. The film features music by A. R. Rahman and cinematography by Marc Koninckx. It was shot across Namibia, Liberia, the Andaman Islands, and Tamil Nadu. Maryan received positive reviews for its performances, technical quality, and emotional depth. The film was a box office hit and had the biggest opening among Indian films in the United States on its release date. It was released on 19 July 2013 in Auro 3D sound format.

Storyline
A poor fisherman from Tamil Nadu travels to Sudan for work. He is kidnapped by terrorists and held hostage for 21 days. He escapes into the deadly desert with no water and no help. His only motivation is the woman he loves waiting for him back home. He must survive the desert to see her again.
