Storyline

A young man named Prathap grows up in a remote village with big dreams of finding opportunity and building a better life somewhere else. When he finally chases those dreams, he gets pulled into a world full of deception and dishonesty where people don't care about him—they only want to use him for what he can give them. Caught between his desire for modern progress and his instinct to protect his village's traditional values, Prathap has to figure out what he really believes in and who he wants to become.

A boy's dreams. A village's lies.

Trivia

  • The title 'Sing Geetham' is a playful blend of the director's own name, Singeetam, and the Telugu word 'geetham,' meaning song — a self-referential choice that signals music will drive the story rather than merely decorate it.
  • Singeetam Srinivasa Rao is one of the very few filmmakers in Indian cinema still directing in his nineties, making Sing Geetham a remarkable late-career statement from a director who began his journey in the 1960s.
  • The village setting echoes a recurring device in Singeetam's filmography — he has long used isolated, rural spaces to stage the collision between old values and new temptations, a tension most famously explored in his landmark 1980 film Shankarabharanam.
  • Singeetam Srinivasa Rao is widely credited with renewing public interest in Carnatic classical music through Telugu cinema; Shankarabharanam reportedly led to a surge in enrolments at music schools across Andhra Pradesh, and Sing Geetham revisits that musical spirit in a contemporary context.
  • The film's comedy-drama blend reflects the director's rare range — across six decades, Singeetam has moved between mythological epics, social satires, and intimate music films without being confined to a single commercial formula.
  • Known for his habit of weaving song sequences into the emotional spine of a story rather than treating them as item breaks, Singeetam's approach to music in Sing Geetham is expected to give each number a narrative purpose tied directly to Prathap's arc.
  • The premise of a young man who enters 'a world of deception' mirrors themes Singeetam has returned to across his career — protagonists who carry an idealistic belief are placed inside a corrupt or indifferent system, and the story tests whether that belief survives.
