Raja Rani Full Story Explained (2013)

The movie begins with John and Regina getting married in a church. Both agree to the marriage reluctantly, only to make their parents happy. They move into an apartment together but live like complete strangers. John comes home drunk every night to annoy Regina. Regina decides to apply for a transfer to Australia to escape the unhappy marriage.

One night, Regina has a seizure and falls down. John is too drunk to help her properly. At the hospital, he can't answer the doctor's questions about his wife. Later, John asks Regina about her health. Regina reveals she had fits twice before, triggered by a terrible tragedy.

Regina tells John about her college love, Surya. Surya worked at a call center and got a job as cabin crew in the US. They planned to marry secretly. But Surya's father stopped them. On their wedding day, Surya never showed up. He left for America without saying goodbye. A few days later, Surya's friend called Regina with terrible news. Surya had committed suicide. The shock caused Regina's first seizure. Three years later, Regina agreed to marry John for her father's sake.

After hearing Regina's story, John starts to respect her. But Regina still treats him coldly. Then John's best friend Sarathy visits their flat. He tells Regina about John's past. John once fell in love with a woman named Keerthana. He pursued her and they got married. But Keerthana died in a car accident the very next day. John was heartbroken and vowed never to marry again. Four years later, Sarathy convinced him to marry Regina.

Regina feels sorry for John's loss. She realizes John witnessed his wife's death, while she only heard about Surya's. Both start liking each other but never say it. On John's birthday, Regina gives him a gift. She asks him to open it alone. But John throws it under the bed, thinking she's just pretending to be affectionate.

Regina's transfer to Australia gets approved. She tells John on the terrace. John thinks she wants a divorce and tells her to go. Regina is heartbroken. She wanted to confess her love. The next morning, John drops her at the airport. They are about to lose each other forever.

At the airport, Regina sees Surya alive at immigration. John rushes to confront him. Surya admits he faked his death to make Regina move on. He says he is happily married now. Surya tells John, 'A man can't always marry the girl he loves, but he can always love the girl he marries.'

Regina slaps John and admits she loves him, not Surya. She throws the unopened gift at him. John opens it and reads, 'Let's begin our life.' He confesses his love too. Regina smiles and says, 'Brother, I already have a boyfriend,' referencing how Keerthana called John. They finally reunite and start their life together.
