Subhash Ghai is a seminal figure in Indian cinema, renowned as a master storyteller and showman whose career as a director, producer, and writer has left an indelible mark on Bollywood. Emerging as a director in the 1970s, Ghai achieved major commercial success with films like 'Karz' (1980), which popularized the reincarnation theme in mainstream Hindi cinema. His golden period in the 1980s and 1990s solidified his reputation for crafting multi-starrer, emotionally charged musical dramas with strong family values, memorable dialogues, and iconic soundtracks.
