Biography
Abhishek Ray is a Kolkata-born Indian film composer, playback singer, and music producer active in Bollywood and Tamil cinema, trained in Hindustani classical vocals and Western classical piano from age four. He composed music for Paan Singh Tomar (2012) and made his Tamil debut with Thoondil (2008), and won the Indian Telly Award for Best Music in 2006 for the documentary The Maharaja Of Jodhpur: The Legacy Lives On. Ray frequently collaborates with poet Gulzar, having recorded a trilogy of albums together — Udaas Paani, Raat Chand Aur Main, and Kab Aate Ho — and is proficient in a wide range of instruments including piano, accordion, darbouka, and wavedrum. Beyond music, he founded the Sitabani Wildlife Reserve adjacent to Corbett National Park, India's first private wildlife reserve, for which he received the Swabhiman Bharat award.
