Biography

Ajay Sastry was a Telugu film director and writer based in Hyderabad who made his feature directorial debut with the 2008 psychological thriller 'Nenu Meeku Telusa...?', starring Manchu Manoj, Sneha Ullal, and Riya Sen. The film, which he also wrote, centered on a protagonist with short-term memory loss who relies on an audio cassette — an innovative narrative structure that earned it a distinct place in Telugu cinema despite modest box office returns. Prior to directing, Sastry worked as an associate director and screenplay writer on films such as 'Rakhi' and 'Danger', and also had a background as a dance instructor who competed in the World Championship of Modern Western Dances in London. He passed away on August 2, 2024, at age 50, and 'Nenu Meeku Telusa...?' is credited by some as an influence on subsequent Telugu filmmakers who explored unconventional narrative formats.
