Kongara Jaggayya was a Telugu cinema actor, lyricist, journalist, and politician known for his commanding baritone voice, earning him the epithet 'Kanchu Kantam' (Iron Throat) in Telugu. Over a four-decade career he starred in over eighty films, including supporting and character roles in Alludugaru (1990) as Ramachandra Prasad and Bobbili Simham (1994) as the Chief Minister, alongside Balakrishna. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India in 1992 for his contributions to Indian cinema and culture. In 1967, he became the first Indian film actor elected to Parliament, representing Ongole in the fourth Lok Sabha.
