Poorna, born Shamna Kasim on May 23, 1989, in Kannur, Kerala, is an Indian actress working across Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam cinema who made her Tamil debut in Muniyandi Vilangial Moonramandu (2008) and rose to pan-South prominence through a mix of horror and commercial films. She gained widespread recognition with the Telugu horror thriller Avunu (2012) and appeared opposite Mahesh Babu in the blockbuster Srimanthudu (2015), while earning critical praise for her portrayal of a hearing-impaired pregnant woman in the Tamil film Savarakathi (2018), a role she prepared for with a ten-day workshop to master Sivagangai dialect. Her repeated casting in horror productions — including Avunu 2 (2015) and Raju Gari Gadhi (2015) — earned her the informal title 'ghost queen of South films,' while Tamil releases like Thagaraaru (2013) and Jannal Oram (2013) established her in mainstream masala entertainers.
