Suriya's dual combat: law and fists in Karuppu

The film divides Suriya between courtroom argument and street justice.
A long-standing legal case involving an elderly man and his granddaughter sits at the centre of Karuppu. Suriya's new film, releasing May 14, straddles two genres: courtroom drama and action thriller.
Trisha Krishnan plays the lawyer Preethi, taking on their case against opposition mounted by RJ Balaji's character. Suriya, the film's anchor, navigates both the legal system and the physical conflicts that arise from their struggle for justice.
What distinguishes Karuppu from standard legal dramas is its refusal to treat action as decoration. Director RJB, who wrote and directed, positions the fight sequences as central to the story rather than a side element. Anbariv choreographed the combat with that integral role in mind.
The supporting cast includes Indrans, Natty, Swasika, Sshivada, Anagha Maya Ravi, and Supreeth Reddy. Composer Sai Abhyankkar created the score.
