Veteran Kollywood music composer Ilaiyaraaja who is the first Indian to compose a full symphony at London has new feathers in his cap. He has been awarded with ‘Centenary Award for Indian Personality of the Year’ at the International Film Festival of India at Goa on November 20. \r\n\r\nThe opening ceremony marked honouring the Maestro for his outstanding contribution to music industry from Finance Minister Mr. Arun Jaitley and Anil Kapoor. The only request from the legend is that the Government needs to make music as a compulsory subject in schools and colleges. \r\n\r\nIlaiyaraaja has put forth this humble request previously many times at several occasions as he thinks that only Music has the power to make one’s mind focus and bring down terrorism. With such a great vision for the future, he has formed one among the masterminds of music in lines of Beethoven and Mozart.\r\n

Ilaiyaraaja is an Indian film composer who works predominantly in the South Indian cinema since the late 1970s. Regarded as one of the finest music composers in India, Ilaiyaraaja is also an instrumentalist, conductor, singer, and a songwriter. He has composed more than 5000 songs and is the only composer in the history of cinema to provide film scores for more than 1000 films, particularly being acclaimed for his background scoring.
