Pre-Release Event

Also called: PRE, pre-release function

A pre-release event is a large-scale, multi-hour public function held shortly before a film's theatrical release, especially in Telugu cinema. The format extends the older audio-launch tradition into a celebrity-studded mega-event: a chief guest (often a major star from another industry), the assembled cast and crew, multiple song performances, comedy and dance interludes, on-stage video reveals, and rousing speeches from the lead actor and director. Telugu cinema has industrialised this format more than any other industry, with films like Saaho (2019), Pushpa: The Rise (2021), and Salaar (2023) staging events that drew crowds in the tens of thousands and television audiences in the tens of millions. The pre-release event functions simultaneously as a fan rally, a marketing push, and a cultural ritual signalling the film's arrival.
